Biography

Sydney is from the rural suburbs of Chicago (until I moved to a country bumpkin town with my husband a few years ago). We have six pets; two dogs, two cats, two reptiles and 70 plants. I’m a bibliophile with a love for collecting old and new books (I have three specialty first edition copies of some of my favorite pieces; they are my pride and joy), and I’ve read 48 so far this year. My favorite book genres include fiction, fantasy, romance and nonfiction with a sociological feminist focus, so I have a very wide range of interests as well as a small daydreamer streak. I’ve got a big ol’ green thumb so you’ll probably find me spending time outside as much as I can while the weather is nice. I’ve even hiked a couple of mountains! (ask me about the time my husband and I fell down the Appalachian trail; I find it to be quite a funny story). I love to cook and create new recipes of my own so if you have a cool recipe for me, please tell me about it! I’ll try new foods or restaurants till the day is long so anything and everything goes when it comes to food recommendations.
I started my undergraduate studies at the University of Tennessee Knoxville in Political
Science with a focus in Middle Eastern Studies however once COVID hit, I ended up
relocating closer to family and finishing up my degree at North Central College. My goal
with my graduate program is to study revolutions and uprisings with coordinated responses from centralized governments and their associated overreaches of power. I want to make my research focused on how those most impacted by these systems can participate in the most efficient manner to accomplish their end goals. What makes revolutions successful or failures and how historically, cultures either domestic or abroad, respond to them. I want to teach individuals at basic levels of their lives how to engage with these systems, and if they can’t accomplish their goals given their system, how they can change it. At the end of my graduate journey, I hope to secure a position teaching individuals at either a community college, possibly a four-year college, or even citizenship courses to those looking to secure naturalization. I sincerely look forward to participating in ISU’s community as faculty, and I’m eager to learn from such incredible professors!
